From the June 12th Provincetown Banner:
Dog park gets go-ahead
PROVINCETOWN — The
board of selectman Monday
cleared away the final hurdles that had stopped a proposed, privately funded dog park from being built on town land.
The Provincetown Dog Park
Association reported that a request to use the next-door Cumberland Farms parking lot to enter the proposed park site, located at the corner of Shank Painter Road and Route 6, had been turned down by the convenience store operator.
However, a site review by the Cape Cod Commission last week recommended that access to the site be allowed via a curb cut on Route 6. As a result, the association can now proceed with plans to install parking spaces next to the fenced in canine park.
|
The last step will be to get selectmen approval for the curb cut, which the board fast-tracked and put on its June 30 special meeting agenda. With the presumed approval of the curb cut, which selectman Monday said they would agree to, construction of the park can begin.
“We hope we will have the park up and running this summer,” said Kath Cote, dog park co-founder.
“I’m guessing everything can be worked out in the next two weeks,” board of selectmen chair Michele Couture said.
Selectman also agreed Monday to put the park under the town’s
liability insurance policy. The remaining cost of building and
maintaining the park, which will include a large dog and small dog
section, will be paid by the dog park association, which has been raising money for the past year.
